AI is the Future, Really ?

"AI is the Future" , for some this is a relevant phrase, but for others it is not. but in reality it is going to affect everyone sooner or later.

Now the question arises What is AI ? How is it going to affect everyone ? AI or Artificial Intelligence sometimes also referred as Machine Learning, is to replicate human intelligence in machines.

So, Will machines be able to learn and take decisions in every circumstances or will it fail to tackle the situation which is not known ? It is bound to happen that machines will not be able to handle new situations which they are not programmed for and will need the assistance of human intelligence to handle.

Due to multiple reasons lots of incident of AI failure are being brought to light. Be it Apple Face ID flawed using 3D mask, wrong results by Amazon AI used for recruitment, UBER test of Self driven cars, or Order placement for Dollhouse without consent from parents.

Technical reasons and monetary investments can not always be held responsible for the failure of AI initiative. So why does AI generally fails ?

Incomplete Business Case or Problem to Solve
Identification of Real Business case or problem is mandatory first step for any AI initiative. Organization must have enough data related to the problem along with the expertise to analyze it and bring out the conclusive reasons.

Incomplete or wrong data related to Problem
You Reap what you sow..
Data related to problem must be validated, incomplete or partial data leads to incorrect hypothesis which ultimately leads to incorrect predictions and solutions.

Continuous upgrade of algorithms
AI or ML, it is not one time job. It requires continuous efforts of finding the cause and improvising the solutions. Any missing cause can lead to the failure of AI.

Socially Acceptable
How would you feel when you come to know that for insurance needs you are talking to a machine which is giving you suggestions?
Would you like asking for medical prescription based on the symptoms and some AI agent prescribing you medicine?
How would you feel when you come to know that your Telephonic interviewer was actually a machine ?

Plan for Failure
Don't Plan Only for Success, Need to Plan for failure and failure will never happen. Most of the time everyone plans for success and failure happens.

AI solution needs to be built for all the possible failures, Causes of all possible failures and the probable solutions must be known to machine then AI system will never fail.
AI can be useful if , Real Business Problems are identified, necessary data for proper analysis is available, right AI tool is selected to address the issues , socially acceptable solution implemented, continuous data analysis and solution upgrade practiced.
